Nobody goes looking for the Roy June Podcast. It cannot be found with a search function anyway; one day a prospective listener will simply find the podcast has mysteriously added itself to their library of listened to podcasts. If they decide to listen in, the adventure begins.

Roy June Podcast by day, Roy June Podcast by night!

The Roy June Podcast is, as the name would suggest, a podcast hosted by a man who calls himself "Roy June". The podcast has a number of frequent guests that make an appearance every few episodes, as well as several named but unheard background assistance. The typical makeup of an episode consists of the host Roy and his guest bouncing between different topics, discussing everything but saying nothing. Topics range from the banal to the grotesque to the unnatural. The podcast will go from a discussion on fencing to the best tool to use when decapitating someone with little pause and even less depth. Frequent allusions are made to current events happening in the realm of "Carcosa" and its magnanimous ruler (though he is never referred to by name) with the same nonchalance and enthusiasim as a drunk uncle at a family gathering.

Those who listen into the Podcast regularly finds themselves quickly out of synch with the rest of the world. Topics that once seemed grotesque becomes banal after being discussed on the Roy June Podcast and truths that are strange to the rest of the world becomes self-evident. Reality drags at the world the listener builds for themselves and they turn more and more to the safe harbour of the Roy June Podcast. Eventually, even those they hold close will tire of hearing whether Jesus could beat the Phantom of Truth in an MMA fight and they will become more and more isolated. Eventually, the Roy June Podcast consumes their former personality and the listener becomes tired of real life. They disappear into Carcosa and are never heard from again: aside from the occssional guest appearance on the Roy June Podcast.

Roy June Podcast, Check it Out!

There's a few ways a Handler could make use of the Roy June Podcast.

  • As a Hook: A fellow Delta Green Agent/Friendly, federal employee, or even a civilian has gone missing. Their friends and family report that the missing fellow has become more and more isolated over the last few months, sprouting incoherent nonsense about things man was not meant to know. Delta Green dispatches the Agents to investigate the disappearance, especially when news reaches them of an obsession with this place "Carcosa".
  • As a Coping Mechanism: As an Agent gets back from a Night at the Opera, they're tired and forlorn. They need to find something to take their mind off the horrors they just witness. Oh, what's this? A new podcast in their library? It can't hurt to listen to an episode or two. After all, it's just a podcast, what's the worst it could do?
  • As a Clue: Your Agents, investigating a King in Yellow incursion, find the podcast on a suspect's phone. Listening to recent episodes, they discover an insight into the listener's insane plans: perhaps the guest brings up a recipe for Mustard Gas and the best way to use it or Roy describes a ritual that will force those who don't believe in Carcosa to confront the listener's reality.
  • As a source of Unnatural Knowledge: Similarly to the above, the Agents are in the middle of an operation when they stumble upon the podcast on a suspect's phone. Later, just as all seems hopeless and the Agents are all out of leads, the phone pings and a new episode of the Roy June Podcast pings. Listening in, the host describes a ritual that perfectly solves their problem. Surely there'll be no consequences for following through?

Alright, We're Rolling

The Roy June Podcast has an endless number of episodes. Everytime a listener wants a new episode it appears. However, there are a few fan favourite moments that I've combined into a compilation for your listening pleasure.

Extract from Episode #95849 featuring guest Kon Geld

Kon: What's really interesting man, is that I really think like that I think about that shit. Like its craaaazy how much the average person doesn't know.
Roy: Yeah like hardly anyone knows about anything if you think about it. If you really think about it, how do we know that we don't know stuff?
Kon: That's actually insane dude, like I never thought of that. How do I know that I don't know things? That's crazy. It's insane. Like. Genuinely.
Roy: Yeah, I think scientists or someone like figured it or something? It's called the Dumb Kruger effect or something I think? Something like that. William, put up the Dumb Kruger effect for us, there's this graph I want to show off that I remember making the rounds on Twitter.
Kon: It's like actually crazy though. The average person knows nothing about Carcosa.
Roy: Really? No there's no way that's true. It's common sense.
Kon: No I'm being serious dude. Can you believe it?
Roy: Do they even know the King wears no mask?
Kon: I mean, they probably think he wears a mask amiright?
Both: [Laughs]

Extract from Episode #17474 featuring guest John Oliver

Roy: Are you like, because I know you write alot about this, are you like religious?
John: [Laughs] No, I actually like consider myself a bit of an atheist you know?
Roy: Wait really? I wouldn't have like expected that from you, dude. After all that crazy shit we've seen together?
John: No because actually like, after seeing all that shit, I know that there can't be a god.
Roy: What?
John: Like no god could creature those horrors. Like when you've seen like a goat eat someone? No way man.
Roy: Wow that's a brave stance. A lot of people won't like it.
John: I don't care man. People care too much nowadays you know? People forget that everything goes away anyway and they get so touchy feely about feelings and shit nowadays.
Roy: A lot of people won't like it but you're so right. You know, if there is a god to a lot of people it's their feelings nowadays.
John: That's so true actually. Like wake up people: the King wears no mask! Wake up!

Extract from Episode #4555 featuring guest Agent Orion

Roy: So you shot this chick? Really?
Agent: I mean I had to right? She was making these weird noises and for all I know the world could have ended if I hadn't.
Roy: So you people do that alot? Just shoot people to save the world?
Agent: I mean some people have to y'know. We can't all sit at home
Both: [Laughs]
Agent: I mean like, Cthulhu isn't going to stop himself.
Roy: Isn't Cthulhu alseep?
Agent: Sure, but he still needs to be kept asleep. And I know some people want to wake him up.
Roy: Some people are so strange man. Like, in the future do you think we'll care, and I mean like will everyday people not literally me and you care about shit like that?
Agent: I mean in the future we'll probably have flying cars or something and live on the Moon so who knows.
Roy: You really believe in that?
Agent: Believe in what?
Roy: Like, flying cars.

Listening to an episode of the podcast takes an hour and costs 1/1d4 SAN to the Unnatural. Agents who fail the SAN test gain +1% Unnatural. If Agents wish to listen to multiple episodes in one sitting back-to-back, the SAN cost rises to 1/1d8 and they gain +3% Unnatural if they fail for every three hours they spend listening. Agents who pass their breaking point as a result of listening to the Podcast gain the disorder Obssession (Roy June Podcast), and will attempt to listen to the Podcast whenever they are alone (luring them inevitably down towards 0 SAN). The Obsession (Roy June Podcast) can be repressed, but doing so requires the Agent to seperate themselves from any device that could be used to stream or play a podcast.

Handlers who wish to do so can have any episode of the Podcast contain the knowledge to any ritual. If so, follow the usual rules as laid down.

Agents (and everyone in general) who have never listened to a Podcast in their life are unable to listen to the Podcast as it sounds like unintelligible grunting.
