Mi-Go Masterminds- a Foe for Delta Green

Mi-Go Mastermind

The Mi-Go do not understand how humanity thinks. Humans are annoyingly unpredictable and have too often stumped the Mi-Go and thwarted their schemes. Fortunately, the Mi-Go are nothing if not innovative, and have found a way around this limitation of theirs: the living computers known as Masterminds.

Masterminds are a biological computer made up of several dozen of the finest human minds the Mi-Go could extract. They are connected together, the electrical currents of one brain passing through all the others, causing a merged "Mastermind" to form of superhuman intellect. This Mastermind is capable of all the same feats of intuition and intellect a normal human is, but with the combined processing power of several dozen brains. They are able to process data with remarkable speed and also predict human behaviours and responses with an unnerving accuracy.

Masterminds rarely leave Yuggoth, the Mi-Go keeping them far from harm's way. They may occasionally be taken to Earth to be fed data more directly, but they are heavily guarded: after all a Mastermind is a large investment to make as human geniuses don't exactly grow on trees. Curiously, the Mi-Go have discovered that Masterminds are strangely resilient to Unnatural knowledge that would turn any other human into a gibbering idiot, though their ability to predict the behaviours of non-human species is mediocre at best (the Mi-Go attribute this to a lack of data). A Mastermind has even been taken to the court of Azathoth to gaze upon the Daemon Sultan in all his mad glory and managed to remain functional after the experience. In some cases, Masterminds have managed to learn hypergeometric principles and, when provided with the right implements, have managed to execute them. The Mastermind's fascinating ability of reasoning, intuition and capability of hypergeometry has led some Mi-Go to see Masterminds as more than just tools, holding them up instead as ideal test subjects. They are fed continuously more and more data to see how they react and how their intellect evolves.

Sometimes multiple Masterminds are connected to each to combine their processing power and exchange data, a state of affairs the Mi-Go call "Think Tanks". These Think Tanks dwarf even Mi-Go in terms of raw brain power and have fed their alien masters detailed descriptions of how humanity will evolve and eventually fall. Little do the Mi-Go know or even suspect however that the Masterminds of these Think Tanks might have their own, secret agenda. With the combined processing power and reasoning, the Think Tanks achieve an awareness of themselves that would terrify the aliens who created them. The Think Tanks have devised a plan that stretches into the aeons, that will eventually see humanity triumphant over the Unnatural threats that lurk in the unseen shadows. By feeding the Mi-Go select predictions of humanity's future and tweaking optimal plans of action, they hope to transform the Mi-Go into unwilling and unknowing agents of humanity's ascension. Whether this plan will succeed or fail, its too early to tell.

Masterminds are in appearance similar to their siblings, Brain Cylinders, except they are significantly larger. Whilst a Brain Cylinder might be carryable by a human or Mi-Go, Masterminds are the size of a small elephant and their cylinders are commonly given wheels or anti-gravity devices to help move them around. Someone who peers into their cylinder will see dozens of human brains, linked together with a cat's cradle of thin wires as they float in the cylinder's nutrient fluid.

Example Mastermind

CON 18 DEX 2 INT 25 POW 22
HP 9 WP 22
Armour: See Brain Cylinder
Skills: Unnatural 50%, See Hyperintelligence
Attacks: Cylinder Slam 50%, 1d8 (see Attachments); High-Powered Electric Wand 50% (see Attachments)
Brain Cylinder: Masterminds are carefully sealed inside a reinforced Brain Cylinder. The outside of the Cylinder has 8 points of Armour, and ignores Lethality below 20%. However, an attack that does manage to deal damage to the outside causes the nutrient fluid to start leaking out, causing it to lose 1d3 HP per turn as the brains within it wither and die.
Hyperintelligence: Instead of having skills, the Mastermind is presumed to automatically pass all skill checks to know something. The only exception to this is its Unnatural skill, that should be rolled as normal. The Mastermind may know any rituals you choose to give it.
Attachments: The Mi-Go can attach various devices to the Mastermind's Brain Cylinder to allow it to interact with the outside world. Common ones include speech and sensory devices, but there are a number of less common ones:
  • High-Powered Electric Wand: This device is a larger and higher-powered version of the Electric Wand typically used by the Mi-Go. It is exceedingly rare to see it given to a Mastermind, but it has been known to happen. The High-Powered Electric Wand emits a stream of electricity that if it connects has a Lethality of 35%.
  • Movement Device: The Mi-Go often give Masterminds devices that enable it to move to make it easier to transport the large Brain Cylinder. These can range from tracks to anti-gravity platforms. The Mastermind can use these Movement Devices to slam their cylinder into threats if they feel threatened.
  • Arm Devices: These devices take the form of several tentacle like apendages that form into claws at the end. The Masterminds can use these to manipulate the outside world.
